Every patient is unique, so the rate at which teeth move in response to treatment differs. However, most braces patients will need to visit their dentist for adjustments approximately every 8 to 10 weeks. This appointment will also be used to check the health of your teeth and monitor the progress of your treatment.

We advise patients who have braces to adjust their diet for the duration of their treatment.

This is because anything particularly hard, sticky or chewy could damage your brace and cause problems with the progression of your treatment.

It's important to brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day as you usually would. Your dental team will explain how to keep your new braces clean and free from plaque.

We suggest keeping a toothbrush with you so you can brush after mealtimes, preventing food from becoming trapped in your fixed braces.

There are special brushes to make it easier to clean around your braces and between the teeth, as it will not be possible to use regular dental floss.
