Charcoal Toothpaste? – What is it and does it work?
With all the hype around teeth whitening with Charcoal Toothpaste, does it work and is it right for me?
There is a limited amount of research around charcoal as an ingredient in toothpaste, but it is certainly something that interests our team at Riverside Dental Norwich.
Is Charcoal Toothpaste safe to use?
Yes, it is safe to use, although there is little evidence about long-term use, like most things you should use it in moderation. If you use Charcoal Toothpaste sparingly, it can become part of your monthly regime. It will help you maintain bright white teeth. This is an alternative to traditional teeth whitening at the dentist.
Overuse of this product may lead to significant tooth damage as it will expedite the erosion of tooth enamel, which cannot be replaced. Because there are no long-term studies on activated charcoal as an ingredient in toothpaste it is important not to rely on this for your tooth whitening alone, your diet should not include too much strong flavoured or coloured food types such as Red Wine and Beetroot and coffee.
How does it work
The Charcoal is activated and this means that it will abrase the top stained layer of your teeth enamel and the abrasive action will improve the brightness and appearance, much like a chemical peel on your face, it removes the fine layers that become discoloured and stained.
Can I get Charcoal toothpaste from Riverside Dental?
